USC Sumter Names Will Thompson Interim Head Baseball Coach
Sumter, SC — The University of South Carolina Sumter is proud to announce the appointment of Will Thompson as the Interim Head Baseball Coach, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the helm of the Fire Ants baseball program.
Thompson, a familiar face at USC Sumter, has served in various coaching roles since 2017, most recently as Associate Head Coach. During his tenure, he helped guide the Fire Ants to a 129–86 record, including Region 10 runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2024. His leadership in recruiting and player development has been instrumental in building a competitive and nationally recognized program.
A former Fire Ant himself, Thompson played for USC Sumter from 2013–2014 and was a member of the 2014 Region 10 Championship team. He later continued his playing career at Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management.
Thompson's coaching journey includes stints at Francis Marion University and Lenoir-Rhyne, as well as summer league experience with the Woodstock River Bandits and Galion Graders.
"Will Thompson has been a vital part of this baseball program for years," said Dr. Adrienne Cataldo. "He's consistently shown his dedication to our student-athletes and the game of baseball, which makes him the ideal leader for this transition."
Thompson will assume his new role immediately.
