The USC Sumter baseball team won both games of the midweek doubleheader at Southeastern Community College-Whiteville and look to carry that momentum into the 3rd Region 10 series of the season vs. USC Lancaster. The weekend series will start Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm and Game 2 starting 30 minutes after completion of Game 1. In the Wednesday matchup against the Rams, starter Colin McGee went 5.0 innnings giving up 3 hits, 3 runs and striking out 9, Carew Bates hit his 3rd HR of the year and Campbell Whitener continued his hot start to the year on the mound collecting his 3rd save. In Game 2, the Fire Ants bats pounded out 14 hits highlighted by leadoff hitter Jasean Perry went 4-4 with 3 runs, 3 RBIs and 2 SBs and Piekutoski, Moss and Cather all collecting multi-hit performanes. Bates also added 4 RBIs and RJ Hamilton earned the win out of the Sumter bullpen with 5 innings of relief, striking out 7 and only allowing 4 hits.
Fire Ants as a team are hitting .334 so far on the season adding 16 HRs so far into the 2026 season. Individual leaders in hitting are Jasean Perry batting .509 with a team high 27 hits and 5 doubles, Ryan Piekutoski batting .400 with a team high 4 HRs, 24 RBIs and 18 BBs, and Jaxon Jean batting .370 with 3 HRs, 5 doubles and 16 RBIs.
