Fire Ant Men's and Women's Track and Field Team Open the Outdoor Season at the Savannah State Eyeopener
Lacey Barrett wins the 5,000 Meter run during a warm and breezy day in Savannah!
The Men and Women Fire Ants Track and Field teams opened the outdoor season at the Savannah State Eyeopener on Saturday March 7. The men's sprint team kicked off the meet on this warm and breezy day with competitive times in the 100 meters. Led by Aden Newkirk with a time of 11.45 seconds, Isaiah Chaisson, Antonio Bing-Cannon, Naydeen Myers, Malik Myers, and Kyheeme Lee had a strong showing for the Fire Ants. T'Najeh Duncombe finished in the top ten women in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.13. Tariq Jones had a fantastic season opener in the 400M finishing in the top ten in this fast race with a time of 50.68 seconds and then led the Fire Ants in the 200M with a time of 23.35 seconds. Sontee China finished fourth in the women's discus with a throw of 21.60 meters followed by a shot put toss of 7.96 meters. Freshman Ethan Morris competed in the shot put and discus in the first outdoor meet of his career. The highlight of the meet came in the penultimate race of the day where Lacey Barrett won the 5,000 Meter run in a Track and Field school record time of 21:56.
