Fire Ants Track and Field team competes at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Myrtle Beach, SC
The Men and Women Fire Ants Continue to build on their Outdoor T&F season against a huge field of NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA athletes.
The Men's and Women's Fire Ants Track & Field team competed in the second meet of the outdoor season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. With near perfect weather in Myrtle Beach, SC over 1500 athletes from 45 teams competing in this storied event. Bra'rasia Ferrer began the competition for the Fire Ants racing in the women's mile, her first track and field competition of the year. T'Najeh Duncombe then exploded from the start in the women's 100M crossing the finish line with a time of 13.05 seconds, her season's best time. For the men, the Fire Ants lined up the four top 100M dashers with Aden Newkirk finishing third in his heat in 11.19 a season best. Isaiah Chaisson, Malik Myers, and Antonio Bing-Cannon all dashed to season records. Irvin Forkpa, in his first race of the 2026 Track and Field season raced the 800M finishing with a strong 2:08.13. Day one of the meet closed with the unique 4x200M relay. The Naydeen Myers, Isaiah Chaisson, Tariq Jones and Aden Newkirk opened the Fire Ant season relay team in dramatic fashion finishing second in their heat and 11th overall as Aden Newkirk accelerated during the last 100M nearly catching the Methodist University runner to cross the line in 1:31.26. Day two of the meet opened with the 4x100M men's relay as Malik Myers, Isaiah Chaisson, Antonio Bing-Cannon, and Aden Newkirk moved the baton around the oval in 43.82 seconds. The showcase race of day two was Tariq Jones' 400M race. Under hot conditions he muscled through an impressive field to finish 24th in the collegiate/seeded division with an all-time personal best of 49.65 seconds. Tariq Jones closed the meet in the men's 200M, leading the Fire Ants with a time of 22.77, followed closely by Isaiah Chaisson, Antonio Bing-Cannon and Naydeen Myers. The Fire Ant Men's and Women's throwing teams competed strongly in this impressive field. Ethan Morris set a personal record in the discus, while Lady Fire Ant Sontee China threw a season best in the shot put and performed competitively in the discus.
