SUMTER, S.C. (Athletics) - USC Sumter competed in a doubleheader on Friday, February 13th, against East Georgia State College, showing offensive production and defensive flashes despite falling in both contests, 8-4 and 14-4.
GAME ONE: EAST GEORGIA STATE COLLEGE 8, USC SUMTER 4
USC Sumter outhit East Georgia State College 11-10 but could not overcome timely hitting and baserunning from the Bobcats. The Fire Ants struck first in the second inning when Anabel Ramirez scored after tagging up to give USC Sumter an early 1-0 advantage.
East Georgia State responded in the top of the third, capitalizing on a fielder's choice and a USC Sumter error to take a 2-1 lead. The visitors maintained momentum late to secure the 8-4 win.
Whitney McElveen led the Fire Ant offense with three hits, while Lamonika Sims added two hits in three at-bats. Eliya Hagan, Anabel Ramirez, and Kierstyn Fuller each drove in a run as USC Sumter totaled 11 hits. Defensively, the Fire Ants turned one double play.
Makenzie Radford was charged with the loss, pitching three innings and allowing two runs (none earned) on four hits while striking out one. Emma Wargel provided four innings of relief, surrendering six runs (five earned) with one strikeout and one walk.
