USC Sumter Softball Drops Two to Gordon State on Sunday

SUMTER, S.C. (Athletics):

Game One: Gordon State 9, USC Sumter 2

The first game remained close until Gordon State erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning to secure another 9-1 victory. 

Gordon State scored in the first on a groundout and added another run in the third. USC Sumter kept the game within reach before the decisive seventh inning, when Gordon State scored seven runs on five hits, aided by defensive miscues and aggressive base running. 

Abigail McManus started in the circle for USC Sumter, pitching all seven innings and allowing nine runs (five earned). Gordon State Madison Krutz allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings. 

Whitney McElveen, Lamonika Sims, and Emma Wargel each collected two hits for USC Sumter. Sims also added two stolen bases. 

Game Two: Gordon State 9, USC Sumter 1

Gordon State used a five-run third inning to pull away and defeat USC Sumter 9-1 for the final game of the doubleheader.

Gordon State struck first in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Macey Batchelor. USC Sumter answered quickly, tying the game in the bottom half of the inning when Tatum Swearingen singled down the left field line to score a run.

After Grodon State regained the lead in the second on a wild pitch, the visitors broke the game open in the third, scoring five runs and capitalizing on a USC Sumter error.
