Fire Ants Battle Hard in Road Match Against Sandhills
Pinehurst, NC — September 6, 2025
USC Sumter Volleyball put up a spirited fight on the road Saturday morning, but ultimately fell to Sandhills Community College in four sets (22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 21-25).
After dropping a close first set, USC Sumter responded with resilience in the second, led by strong offensive contributions from Isabella Cocke (15 kills, .200 hitting percentage) and Telecia Tame (12 kills, 16 total points). Setter Maiti Martin orchestrated the offense with 38 assists, helping the Fire Ants edge out a 25-23 win to even the match.
Despite the momentum, Sandhills regrouped and took control in the third and fourth sets.
Defensively, Julia Hurd anchored the back row with 19 digs, while Lyla Young and Magdalena Borysewicz contributed at the net with a combined 9 blocks. The Fire Ants out-blocked Sandhills 22 to 14 and recorded more total points (77 to 60.5), highlighting their aggressive play despite the final scoreline.
