Fire Ants Show Grit in Four-Set Battle Against Southwest Virginia

In their second match of the day at Sandhills Community College, the USC Sumter Volleyball team displayed determination and resilience but came up short against a strong Southwest Virginia squad, falling in four sets (18-25, 24-26, 25-15, 18-25).
After a slow start in the first set, the Fire Ants found their rhythm in the second, pushing Southwest Virginia to the brink before narrowly dropping the set 24-26. USC Sumter roared back in the third, dominating with a .257 hitting percentage and holding their opponents to zero attack efficiency. The Fire Ants' aggressive net play and improved ball control led to a convincing 25-15 win.
Isabella Cocke led the offense with 16 kills and 18 digs, while Magdalena Borysewicz and Lyla Young added 10 kills each. Setter Maiti Martin contributed 4 kills, 3 service aces, and 4 solo blocks, showcasing her versatility and leadership on the court.
Defensively, Julia Hurd was a standout with 30 digs, anchoring the back row and keeping rallies alive. USC Sumter out-blocked Southwest Virginia 18 to 11 and recorded more total points (70 to 54), underscoring their competitive edge despite the final result.
